Juvederm Questions and Answers
Q: What are Injectable Fillers?
A: Collagen is a natural part of our skin’s support structure. Yet, as we mature collagen starts to decrease or thin and shows results of aging such as lines, wrinkles and skin laxity begin to reveal on the face. Injectable fillers are used to replenish the skin’s collagen layer, by adding volume, thus causing the wrinkles and lines to smooth out almost immediately. Clients may additionally consider injectable fillers for fullness in the lips and cheeks.
Q: Who Is A Good Candidate For Fillers?
A: Those who have lost volume or have deepening furrows, creases, and lines characteristic of aging can benefit. Those who are younger, but desire bigger lips, defined cheekbones, or a more defined chin can also see wonderful results.
If you desire a slight improvement or a younger “Natural” look of age-related wrinkles, between the ages of 18-65 with wrinkles, you may be a candidate. It has become a superb option for the patient hesitant to undergo surgery, yet want to erase the deep creases of the face, reduce heavy vertical creases between the eyebrows, flatten deep forehead wrinkles and smooth out the crow’s feet area of the eyes.
Q: What makes Juvederm different?
A: While other HA fillers on the market have a more granular consistency, Juvederm is the first smooth-consistency HA gel. Due to an innovative production method described as Hylacross technology. HYLACROSS gives it a unique smooth gel property as well as an optimal gel structure that holds up over time. Juvederm injectable gel is a HA filler that’s FDA -approved to last 1 year (up to one year).
Q: Which Filler is best for me?
A: During a consultation, it will be determined which Filler would be most appropriate for you. This will depend upon the site to be treated, depth of the wrinkle or scar and duration of benefit you are looking to achieve. For example, although Restylane Defyne or Radiesse® may persist for up to 18 months it is not appropriate for all treatment areas.
Q: How is the Juvederm procedure done in Pittsburgh PA at Body Beautiful?
A: Juvederm® treatment is a precise procedure that must be done carefully to be successful. Your doctor will determine exactly where to administer a few tiny injections to achieve the best results for your liking. The location and depth of creases are noted and symmetry is assessed. Based on this evaluation, the filler material is injected directly under the Wrinkle Line or furrow that you would like to elevate. To plump up thin lips or to reduce ‘lipstick lines’, the Filler is injected into the lips. Filler treatments take just a few minutes.
The entire procedure can be performed in your physician´s office, which takes approximately 20 minutes, per facial area, there is no downtime afterward, which allows you to return home immediately after your procedure.
Juvederm Questions and Answers
Q: Is there any discomfort with Juvederm treatments?
A: No anesthesia is required, though many choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream 30 minutes prior to injecting. This effectively eliminates the slight twinge that may be caused by a fine needle during treatment. For a more comfortable filler experience, most fillers are FDA approved and formulated with an anesthetic. There is usually mild discomfort with traditional fillers such as Juvederm® Ultra Plus at the injection site – this only lasts for the duration of each injection, which is usually a few seconds. There is rarely any discomfort or unusual sensation after treatment with fillers.
Q: When can I see results after Juvederm treatment?
A: Immediately after the Filler has been placed, the wrinkle line, furrow or scar will be elevated. However, often the surrounding skin is somewhat elevated as well. Beginning in one or a few days, the reduction can be more appreciated.
Q: How long do fillers last?
A: Depending on many factors, such as your lifestyle (such as smoking), age and skin structure your results may last as long as six months to a year or more. The resulting effect of the procedure starts to diminish but, you can replenish the area as needed. All of the naturally occurring Fillers provide temporary improvement in the appearance of at-rest wrinkle line, furrows, scars, lipstick lines and thin lips.
The results vary widely – from 8 to 12 months depending on the specific Filler used, the site of treatment and your individual response. In addition, the presence of Botox may enhance the duration of Fillers. For example, if the Glabella lines (those lines between the eyebrows) are being treated with a Filler, the duration of benefit may persist longer if Botox was administered as well. After the result of the Filler decreases another treatment can be administered. There is no limit to the number of Filler treatments that one can receive.

Q: What are Restylane, Juvederm and Belotero?
A: Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero are similar products and our expert injectors can help you pick which is best for you. Though Radiesse and Sculptra are not made of hyaluronic acid, they produce similar effects. Sculptra is made of poly-L-lactic acid or PLLA. Radiesse is made of calcium hydroxylapatite.
Q: What is the future of Fillers?
A: In the sections below, you will find information about a variety of fillers, including those no longer frequently used or on their way out. I include a brief discussion of them because in certain situations they might prove useful. Filler products evolve as new information becomes available, so I strongly recommend that you seek updated information before choosing any filler treatment.
The filler discussion is divided into Temporary, Semi-Permanent and Permanent fillers and further divided by the material used to create the filler. In addition, I’ve provided some general information about preparation for filler treatments, some of which apply to most filler injection procedures. You’ll note that when a filler is either too new to evaluate fairly or is one I would rarely recommend, I have summarized its features and have not assigned it a grade.

Q: How much do Juvéderm and other fillers cost?

Q: Where will I receive my filler treatment?

Q: How long does the filler treatment take?
A: Sessions typically last about 20-40 minutes, depending on the number of target areas desired.
Q: Are filler injections painful?
A: Filler treatments are not considered painful, however, some patients notice a slight pinch after the injection. Fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine (a numbing anesthetic), however, Body Beautiful will supply additional anesthetics at the patient’s request.
Q: What should I do before my treatment?
A: Filler patients should avoid aspirin, anti-inflammatory medications, and vitamin E supplements prior to treatment. These may cause bleeding and bruising at the site of injection. You can also visit our Pre and Post Filler Care page for additional information.
Q: What should I expect for a recovery period?
A: Immediately following the treatment, the target areas may appear slightly swollen and red. This will fade within a few days. If swelling and redness persist after 5-7 days, please contact us.
Q: When can I return to my normal activities after my filler treatment?
A: Patients can return to work, school and other activities immediately following their treatment.
Q: Are there any risks associated with the fillers Body Beautiful uses? (See important Information)
A: Restylane is an FDA-approved, effective and safe dermal filler. Although rare, complications may include scarring, asymmetry and nerve damage.
Q: How much filler will I need?
A: Every patient is different, so our experts will help you make the best decision based on your condition and goals during your consultation. Filler treatments are performed during a single session and can be dispersed between several target areas, increasing volume. Since fillers gradually reabsorb and your skin naturally creases, touch-ups may be necessary for between treatments.
Q: How is Perlane different from Restylane?
A: The difference between Perlane and Restylane is that the molecule that makes up Perlane is four times larger than Restylane. So, the body takes longer to break down Prelane. Perlane is injected deeper into the skin’s inner layer and can fill in the creases with less product. Restylane lasts 6-9 months and Perlane lasts 6 months.
Q: Can fillers be done on men?
A: Yes, our fillers are safe for both women and men. Since men have different facial structures, they require a different approach. Our injectors are experts at applying fillers and injectables to men and accentuating men’s features.
