Patients allergic to or have hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin, or an inactive ingredient (human albumin and sodium chloride) should not be treated with Botox and Dysport. If you had an allergic reaction to another botulinum toxin product or have an infection in the area that is being treated, you should not be treated. Injectables may not be used if a patient has had facial surgery.

If allergic to cow’s milk protein should not use Dysport and Botox.

Patients who are using substances that can prolong bleeding, such as blood thinners like aspirin or ibuprofen, as with any injection, may experience increased bruising or bleeding at the injection sites. You can decrease your chance of bruising if you avoid aspirin-containing products, blood thinners, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for 7 to 10 days before the procedure. Some healthy suggestions to minimize bruising are to eat pineapple. You can apply topically or take arnica before treatment. You should ask/inform your physician before treatment if you are using these types of medications.

Patients with bruising or skin infection at the planned injection site should not receive injectables until the wound is healed.

Although it’s rare if there is any slight bruising, we offer free IPL treatment touch up to speed recovery along (if deemed safe).

Certain antibiotics need to be completed before receiving injectables (ie. Gentamycin, Tobramycin, Netilmicin).

Amikacin or those who have been on aminoglycoside antibiotics.

Certain neurological/ muscular conditions that affect your muscles and nerves – such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease), Lambert-Eaton syndrome, and Myasthenia Gravis may be at increased risk (stiffness or weakness).

Important Botox Information | What are the possible Botox side effects?

The treated area may be slightly pink for one to two hours after injection. This typically settles down quickly with a light application of ice. Discomfort is brief but you may experience:

Temporary – injection site reactions, such as short-term bleeding/bruising from the needle. Possible slight redness, mild pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, bumps, bruising, itching, and bleeding/bruising is usually minimal and can be easily covered with make-up.

Minor headaches or neck pain can occur (despite the fact Botox is used to treat migraines. Tylenol or Advil are suggested).

Flu-like symptoms – tiredness, dizziness, nausea or feeling faint

Don’t use Botox within 3 days of any vaccination or flu shots

The tightness of skin- The mistake of using too much. You’ve seen some Hollywood faces that look like plastic surgery disasters. Chances are that part of what’s going on is the Botox mask; flat, unemotional, frozen, almost shiny look. Luckily, this will wear off within five months. We stay on the side of caution, which means we recommend not overdoing it; you may instead decide to come back in 2 weeks to purchase a slight touch-up (2-6 units).

Dry Eyes or mouth, Rash, and infection are also theoretically possible

Double or blurred vision

Drooping of the eyelid occurs in about 1% of National cases

Even though we have not observed drooping eyelids in anyone that we have treated, because our trained staff knows exactly what muscles to inject and what areas to avoid; we are still able to consult or help you if you are concerned with a result that you have received from another Aesthetic provider. Having a low eyebrow position can predispose you to this effect. Typically, the droop appears about five days after injection. Ptosis or drooping eyelid is temporary but can take up to six weeks to disappear. You may be given prescription eye drops, in some cases, to speed-up resolution.

Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin side effects are rare but would develop if it affected an adjacent muscle, which was not meant to be treated. Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin can diffuse or migrate to other muscles, up to an inch from its injection site, so even the same exact injection method can yield slightly different results or cause facial expressions to be slightly out of balance. However, each of these side effects is short term, lasting only a few weeks, most are very insignificant differences.

Consultation – There are subtle differences between these similar products and depending on variables, such as past toxin use, muscle structure, and the area you want to be treated currently – our staff can help you make a more educated decision on which one is best for you.

In theory, having a variety to choose from limits the possibility of efficacy wearing off or you needing more and more to “keep” your results.

Patients should have a private consultation prior to receiving a Dysport, Botox, or Xeomin treatment. Our trained injector specialist will assess the patient’s skin condition and review past surgeries, treatments, current medications, and goals. During the consultation, the treatment process, benefits, possible side effects, and expected results will be discussed in detail, and a personalized Body Beautiful treatment plan will be put in place.

Within the first 24 hours, avoid strenuous exercise, sun or heat exposure, and alcoholic beverages. Exposure to any of these may cause temporary redness, swelling, itching, and/or possible migration from the injection sites. If you experience swelling, you may place an ice pack over the swollen area.

Is there any chance of serious side effects?

Rarely, serious heart problems or allergic reactions have been reported. If you think you’re having an allergic reaction, Asthma symptoms, or other unusual symptoms, such as becoming dizzy, difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing – get immediate medical attention! There are no reports of permanent side effects from Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin treatments.

Overall Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin is a very safe substance when injected in the proper settings by a trained professional. Tens of thousands of people overdose as a result of Tylenol or Aspirin use but most people readily take them for aches and pains without worrying about their serious side effects. Botox is considered safer than Tylenol and Aspirin and serious lethal side effects from cosmetic uses are practically unheard of. Unfortunately, Botox has gotten bad publicity by comedians and on TV sitcoms because of unfortunate cases where inexperienced injectors have created a very unattractive look.

Botulinum toxin is a safe, effective, and proven method for treating fine lines and wrinkles. Its safety is well established, as it has been used therapeutically for many years, since the mid-1980s. Discontinuing Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin treatments, in time, will reverse any side effects that may occur from treatment. In other words, most of the risks are temporary and wear off as Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin wears off.
