Nail fungus removal pre and post-care:

Protect your investment, and protect your Feet. Read our Prevention methods and Pre and Post care solutions. Nail Fungus or Onychomycosis is an overgrowth of fungus in, under, or on the toenails or fingernails. Fungus thrives in warm moist environments, like sweaty socks and shoes. The nail becomes discolored (yellow or brown), thick or brittle (cracked and crumbly).

Contagious Factors for Nail Fungus can include:
Prevention starts with being educated; that's why we provide this nail fungus removal pre and post-care. You can help get rid of toenail fungus with laser treatments combined with some at-home prevention such as

Having an injured nail or nail trauma.

Repeated exposure to infected areas such as sports, fitness clubs, public showers, swimming pools, and walking around barefoot in a hotel or locker room.

Family history of susceptibility, compromised immune system, poor health conditions, diabetes, or poor circulation; increased age may make one more susceptible.

Wearing tight shoes, not allowing feet to breathe, perspiring more (moist), warmer climate areas, having skin conditions such as psoriasis/eczema or athlete’s foot.

The same fungus that causes jock itch, yeast infections, athlete's foot, and ringworm can cause a nail infection.

Although temporarily effective, many cannot take oral antifungal medications, Lamisil, due to side effects. A toenail fungus or wart reduction laser treatment works by pulsing a focused beam of light, calibrated to a specific frequency targeting cells responsible for the infection. The laser penetrates the toenail and eliminates fungus embedded in the nail bed and nail plate. Treating all toes is recommended to eradicate fungus that has yet to show up; thus preventing recurrence. Most patients need 3 or more treatments; depending upon the length of time and severity of the infection.

Plantar warts are caused by human papillomavirus or HPV. They usually present as small growths that appear on weight-bearing areas of your foot such as the heel or forefoot. Pressure may cause these plantar warts to grow inward beneath a thick layer of hard skin (callus). Our Podiatrist recommends a combination of laser with salicylic acid, minor surgery, OTC freezing sprays, or the new Swift microwave wart treatment.

Pre & Post Care

Onychomycosis, a fungus under nails. Nails may thicken yellow or crack/crumble Contagious Factors for Nail Fungus: Having an injured nail, compromised immune system, elderly, diabetes, poor circulation, wearing tight shoes, not allowing feet to breathe, perspiring a great deal (especially hands & feet), suffer from other skin conditions such as; psoriasis, eczema or athlete’s foot, walking around barefoot in public showers, locker rooms and swimming pools etc.. A nail fungus & wart reduction treatment works by a specific frequency affecting cells responsible for infection. Thus, penetrating the nail and destroying fungus embedded in/ under the nail bed and plate. Treatment of ALL nails on appendage is recommended to eradicate fungus that has yet to manifest; thus helping prevent a recurrence. Majority of our patients need 2 or 3 sessions; dependent upon the length of time patient has had an infection, severity in which nail is involved, and how well the Pre/Post instructions here are followed. It may be necessary to perform additional treatments to obtain optimum results. Download the full Pre and Post Sheet Below…

We recommend visiting the Podiatrist at BVFootClinic.com or 878-313-3338 for toenails that are too thick. You will want to have the nails dremeled thinner for more effective laser penetration into the fungus filled nail bed. Please clean your feet well, patients must remove any traces of nail polish and even lint as this can cause complications with the laser. A deep or large wart may need to be scraped prior to treatment to allow the laser to penetrate the root of the wart.

Post Laser Treatment

Post Laser Treatment:
Use tolnaftate or undecylenic acid topical antifungal medication 1-2 times daily until nails grow out clear (in about a year), then a few times a week for life to maintain results and prevent re-infection. Clean anything your feet have touched before treatment (nail clippers/files, shower, sheets, etc.), with Clorox, Lysol, or fungus disinfectant. For warts, we have Verrustat available to paint on the wart daily.

For better, faster results – Disinfect all your other footwear (with sporicidal antifungal shoe spray, available in our offices), pull inside sole out, spray deep inside shoes to cover toe areas. Completely dry shoes before putting them back on and if the weather is nice, leave them out in sunlight, ultraviolet helps kill fungal spores. Spray shoes again after they dry to kill any remaining fungus that may have survived the first spraying. Let them dry completely, can even use antifungal foot powder or ultraviolet (UV) lights.

Soak feet 15 min/day for about 10 days after each laser treatment. Use tea tree oil, 3% hydrogen peroxide, a mixture of one part vinegar to three parts water or 1 teaspoon of bleach in half a gallon of water (enough to cover the toes in a small basin) to help prevent reinfection. Additionally, a drop of essential oil, ½ cup Epsom salt, ½ cup baking soda, and ¼ cup of hydrogen peroxide with 4 cups of hot water when mixed can aid in the removal of fungal infections and foot odor. Rinse and allow nails to dry thoroughly before wearing socks and shoes. Combining medications, soaks or topicals with laser treatments has proven to give the best results and protect your investment.

We strongly recommend a topical anti-fungal used 2x a day until nail is grown out, such as Formula 3, NailEsse, Novanail, etc. If the place becomes or seems infected possibly with leaking honey-colored crusting or increasing redness and if you experience an unusual discomfort or if any other complications develop you should stop the application and call us immediately. I know and understand the fungus may not be entirely abolished, that the nail may become re-infected or there may be other types of infection present. The nail may remain discolored or not join to the nail bed. This treatment will not change the shape, width or other deformities of the nail plate. In clinical studies, there have been no adverse reactions, injuries, disabilities or known side effects on skin or soft tissue. Equally, with any procedure, there’s some chance of side effects that are unknown. I understand it might take up to 9-12 months for a clearer nail to grow back. With this in mind, I am choosing to try noninvasive laser treatment for nail fungus. Body Beautiful Medical Laser Spa has seen excellent results on patients who have been consistent with their treatments and have followed their instructions. You have been treated with a highly specialized laser that has been deemed safe and effective by the FDA. It is important that you come back within 6-8 weeks for all of your scheduled treatments.
