How Microdermabrasion Works – Microderm is the uses of small fine crystals OR diamond tips that abrade the skin and uses suction to pull up the dead skin cells. The skin made up of 2 layers, the first layer of the outer skin is epidermis which it is a set of skin cells layered on top of one another that is in the stages of maturing. The dermis is the deeper layer which won’t be affected or damaging to the skin. The very top layer, called stratum corneum, which acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It filters out all but the smallest molecules from getting through.
When lotions and creams are applied on the skin, some moisture passes through. This is usually the layer that has the skin imperfections. The microdermabrasion process mostly takes place at the stratum corneum level. Thus only mostly targeting the epidermis.
Microdermabrasion is the atraumatic removal of dead surface cells of the skin, thereby initiating cellular renewal at both the dermal and epidermal levels. This cellular stimulation improves skin complexion, texture, elasticity, color and overall appearance of the skin. The results are immediate, with no discomfort and no recovery time.
